Mara Backsen is a singer-songwriter and lifelong music lover from Leadville, Colorado! A vocal music student, she was inspired to begin a songwriting career during the pandemic. One of her biggest passions is improving her skills at vocals,  guitar, and piano,  and she is most proud of how she has grown as a songwriter, especially her melody crafting.  One of her favorite parts of song production is envisioning and singing her own harmonies! One of the biggest things that has always drawn her to music is the colors and patterns she sees as a synesthete.

She is passionate about the outdoors, and her lyrics often draw from her experiences growing her confidence in the mountains. Having grown up in a small mountain town, acoustic music reminds her of where she is most at home, among the beautiful outdoors in Colorado.

Songwriting is also the way she processes and expresses her feelings.  Themes from both her romantic relationships and friendships are at the heart of her songs. Her goal in her lyrics is to convey complicated experiences in such a way that everyone who listens can relate her words to their own lives. She is grateful for and hopes to touch every one of her listeners!

Mara has already released two EPs in her young career, the first titled "Each New Sunrise", followed by "Dreams" the following year. She will be releasing a third EP in early 2026. Mara's music explores the boundaries of alt country, Americana, singer-songwriter, and indie. She is inspired by a wide range of artists, from Katie Pruitt to Larkin Poe. She has also appeared as a harmony vocalist for a variety of tracks and is the main backup vocalist for the garage rock band, The Fallen Rocks.
